Le Domaine de Fontenay welcomes you

Nature and history in Joffreville

Le Domaine de Fontenay is situated in Joffreville, a village some kilometres from Diego Suarez, located on the flanks of Montagne d’Ambre, and boasting sting late nineteenth century picturesque colonial architecture derived from a former French Army health centre.  Within easy reach of the well-known Montagne d’Ambre National Park, a tourism highlight in Madagascar, Le Domaine de Fontenay provides the perfect base for discovering the primary forest, home to numerous lemurs, and where one can also see a great variety of orchids, most of which are endemic to the Diego Suarez region.

Galileo, multi-centenarian tortoise

Le Domaine de Fontenay, with its eight en suite luxury rooms and suite with private terrace, magnificent gardens, own nature park, impeccable service and fine dining, is reputed as one of the best lodges in Madagascar.

Ideally situated in Joffreville, in the centre of the Northern region, Le Domaine de Fontenay can arrange transfers, exclusively for its resident-guests, from/to either Diego airport or the port of Ankify, and also a variety of excursions to discover this rich and diverse region.

Only 34km from Diego Suarez (Antsiranana), its altitude of 760m ensures a temperate and healthy climate throughout the year and is malaria-free.

Le Domaine de Fontenay is also the proud keeper of probably the oldest resident in the world: meet Galileo, aged between 250 and 300 years, a giant Aldabra tortoise with the most endearing character.

Top achiever of Madagascar’s prestigious 2007-2008 “Green Label” award, Le Domaine de Fontenay is committed to keep and conserve its long-term vision for a fair and sustainable development in tourism.
